Local Synagogues Are Planning Program
to Solidify Community-Wide Cooperation

Jack Schon, upon his re-
election this week as
president of the Synagogue
Council of Greater Detroit,
stated that a planned pro-
gram for communal cooper-
ation to unify activities
while lending strength to
the religious institutions is
being planned coopera-
tively with existing move-
ments.
Schon expressed the
hopes of the Synagogue
Council' that community
cooperation with it and with
the Detroit Rabbinical
Commission will unify
interest and devotion to
Jewish causes.

Plans Program

The Michigan Chapter of
Jewish Marriage Encounter
will offer an information
program 3 p.m. Feb. 15 in
the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Set at Birmingham Temple

Several events -are
scheduled to take place this
month at the Birmingham
Temple.
At 8:30 p.m. Monday,
Rabbi Sherwin Wine will
speak on "Tchernichowski
— The Humanist Prophet."
There is a charge, and the
public is invited.
At 8:30 p.m. Feb. 14,
pianist Flavio Varani will
perform in a benefit concert
for the temple.
A native of Brazil, Var-
ani has been on the fa-
culty of the music de-
partment of Oakland
University since 1972.
A reception will be part of
the evening's activities.

On Feb. 23 at 8:30 p.m.,
Dr. Judith Bardwick,
author and psychology pro-
fessor at the University of
Michigan, will speak on
"'Families in Transition: No
Lifestyle Is Painless."
Dr. Bardwick was edu-
cated at Purdue and Cornell
Universities and received
her doctorate from the Uni-
versity of Michigan in 1964.
She is a member of the
American Psychological
Association and the Mid-
west Psychological Associa-
tion among many other pro-
fessional groups.
In - addition to her
teaching duties, Dr.
Bardwick is a therapist in
private practice, and an
associate dean for stu-
dent academic affairs at
the university. She is the
author of The Psychol-
ogy of Women" and "In
Transition."
