Mrs. Cohen uses the ele- ments of the classic story and retells them using a modern-day setting. In the novel, a young girl on her way to visit her grandmother is sidetracked by Sam, a mysterious char- acter who convinces her to join him for dinner. It is at Sam's home, an animal farm located far from the city, that the story becomes a contemporary version of Noah's Ark. Mrs. Cohen, who makes her home in New Jersey, has written several popular picture-story books and children's novels.
