ceived by Israel had not
been satisfactory and had
not allayed Israeli concern.
It was "hardly thinkable,"
Shamir said, that German
weapons should threaten
the security of the Jewish
state.
rael was a photograph of the
bodies made three days
after the incident with a
telescopic lens at a distance
of about one kilometer (six-
tenths of a mile). It showed
only three bodies and was
taken to substantiate the
charge that the other two
bodies had been burned and
mutilated with explosives.
The photograph was
shown to Israeli officers,
who asked for an immediate
enlargement of the photo.
When this was examined,
all five bodies were visible
and none showed signs of
burns or mutilation.
Israel army sources said
Odegaard admitted he may
have been too hasty in ac-
cepting the allegations of
the Dutch troops withoi –
further investigation. B.
UN sources expressed sur-
prise at the admission and
said they would await the
findings of the investigat-
ing commission.

PARIS (JTA) — Israeli
Labor Party leader Shimon
Peres concluded his six-day
trip to Europe this week by
meeting with West German
Chancellor Helmut
Schmidt and former Chan-
cellor Willy Brandt. Peres
met President Valery Gis-
card d'Estaing of France,
British Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher, Aust-
rian Chancellor Bruno
Kreisky and former Dutch
Prime Minister Joop den
Uyl last week.
Peres told the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency that
his trip was positive and
constructive" and that he
felt that Europe "is pre-
pared to listen to Israel's
explanations of her policies
and stand."
Peres has reportedly told
the West European states-
men with whom he has con-
ferred that though the
Labor Party will make defi-
nite changes in foreign and
internal policies if elected,
"There is an Israeli consen-
sus on a number of basic fac-
tors such as Jerusalem and
a refusal to negotiate with
the Palestine Liberation
Organization," he said.
He also called on the
leaders to help bridge the
gulf between Europe and
Israel by adopting a more
neutral stance in the
Middle East conflict, to
press King Hussein of
Jordan to join the peace
talks and to develop eco-
nomic cooperation with
the region.
On several occasions, the
Israeli Labor leader
warned, "History will not
wait endlessly for King
Hussein." He also said that
Europe "must put aside and
forget the June 1980 Venice
Declaration" if it still wants
to play a role in the Middle
East.
The Venice Declaration
called for recognition of the
DT n
L.—
ing parties in the search for
a solution in the Middle
East.
