TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Ac-
cording to Haim Bermont,
writing in Davar, there are
more Israeli yordim living
in South Africa than there
are South African olim liv-
ing in Israel.
Despite the high level of
Zionist activity among
South Africa's Jewish com-
munity, Bermont says
fewer than one-third of
South Africa's Jewish im-
migrants over the past 30
years have settled in Israel.

Kosher Law
Is Violated

Editor, The Jewish News:
On June 10, 1966, the
Michigan legislature
enacted the Michigan
Kosher Food Law. The law
specifies that if a place of
business sells or exposes for
sale both kosher and non-
kosher food products, it
must indicate on its "win-
dow signs and all display
advertising, in block letters
at least four inches in
height, "Kosher and non-
kosher food sold here." A
place of business guilty of
failure to make such a dis-
play is guilty of a mis-
demeanor.
The case in point concerns
two local candy stores.

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Zeev
Schiff, military correspon-
dent for Haaretz, writes
that the Middle East is
quickly approaching the
nuclear era.
He'says nuclear weapons
in the hands of the Arabs
would be a great peril for
the entire region. He advo-
cated doing everying within
Israel's power to prevent
Arab advances in nuclear
weaponry.
Schiff quoted Mordecai
Zippori, Israel's deputy
minister of defense, who
said that Israel would be
forced to take other meas-
ures to defend herself if
political means do not yield
the desired results.
