THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Jewish-Hispanic Dialogue Begun NEW YORK — A na- tional dialogue between the Jewish and Hispanic com- munities in the U.S. has been started by the Ameri- can Jewish Committee. The first of two confer- ences took place Jan. 10-11 under the auspices of the AJCommittee's Western Region, with two dozen Jewish and Hispanic lead- ers from five states meeting for three days at a retreat in Scottsdale, Ariz. A second conference, focusing on "Immigration and Acculturation," is being sponsored by the Houston Chapter Feb. 4-5. EXCALIBUR Hair Styling Salon Rabbi Abramson to Conduct Headmasters Confab in N.Y. Rabbi Robert Abramson, headmaster of Hillel Day School, will chair the na- tional conference of head- masters of Solomon Schech- ter Day Schools which will be held in New York, Sun- day through Tuesday. Some 40 headmasters from the United States and Canada will attend. The theme of the confer- ence, according to Rabbi Abramson, will be "The Role of the Headmaster," with workshops on the Headmaster and the Board, Time Management, and the Emerging Solomon Schech- ter Day School Curriculum. Sessions will be ad- dressed by Mrs. Barbara Stanton, chairman, trustees committee of the National Association of Private Schools and Dr. Richard Barter, headmaster of Col- legiate School in New York. At a sharing session, cur- riculum newly developed at Hillel on writing and on Jewish social studies will be presented. Soviet Emigres Receive Free Therapy in NY NEW YORK (JTA) — Re- cent Soviet Jewish immig- rants to the New York area are beneficiaries of a service which provides them with therapy to help them cope with the stresses of putting down roots in a strange new country, according to the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies. The Jewish Board of Fam- ily and Children's Services and the Jewish Community Services of Long Island have highly-trained Russian-speaking psychiat- rists, psychologists and so- cial workers who offer free therapy to Soviet newcom- ers settled for a year or longer.
