Report: Water Rights Could Be Problem in Middle East

NEW YORK — Conflicts
over water rights in the
semi-arid Middle East are
"a time bomb that could
eventually demolish any
political arrangements un-
less satisfactorily resolved,"
according to a recent report
issued by the American
Jewish Committee.
The situation is so acute,
the report maintains, that
delay will only exacerbate
the situation." It states that
"regional cooperation,
adequate international
ding, and development
new technologies . . .
must be undertaken now, if
severe shortages of water
and potential conflict are to
be avoided in the future."

"Heirlooms" (MacMillan)
by Carole Morgan is a com-
pelling novel about three
generations of women, the
men with whom they are
involved and the sorrows
and triumphs of their love
for each other and their

Nehuma, the story's main
character, leaves the Uk-

America. The couple settles
in New York and the family
saga begins.
As the family expands,
Nehuma's true role as
peacemaker emerges. In her
relationships with her
daughters and others, she
realizes the full range of re-
sponsibilities that love im-
poses.

NEW YORK — The

The committee is geared

to Rabbi Marvin Friedman,
chairman of the group.
