Michael Stein Will Head
Israel Anniversary Fete

Attorney Michael Stein
has been named chairman
for Israel's 33rd anniver-
sary celebration, "Celebra-
tion 33," part of a worldwide
observance marked by the
release of the film, "The
Chosen," based on the
Chaim Potok novel.
Sales of tickets to the film
will provide scholarship as-
sistance to Israeli young
men and women.
The event is the result of-
collaboration among the
government of Israel, a vast
spectrum of the arts, the
world of business and 15 in-
ternational charitable
organizations pooling their
resources and uniting in a
single effort to aid the con-
tinuing well-being of the
state of Israel through their
support of education.
Appearing in the film
are: Maximilian Schell,
Rod Steiger, Robby Be-
nson and Barry Miller
under the direction of
Jeremy Paul Kagan. The
film produced by Edie
and Ely Landau, will not
go into general release
until fall.
In addition to the exclu-
sive premiere of "The Cho-
sen," the evening also will
highlight the one-time only
showing of a specially pro-
duced star-filled program
on film that expresses the
mind and heart of the
Jewish experience in a
mosaic of poetry, humor,
dramatic literature, music
and song.
In countries where the
Jewish population is not
large enough to warrant a
major premiere, the con-
suls will be hosting invita-
tional diplomatic evenings
featuring the screening of
"The Chosen" and the celeb-
rity film.
Participating organiza-
tions in the United States
are: American Friends of
Haifa University, Ameri-
