WHEN YOU consider
that school reunions bring
together people who mostly
knew each other during the
years they attended that in-
stitution of learning . . . it
is all the more remarkable
when a group like Rex gets
together . . . Here's a
bunch of guys who went
through AZA Bnai Brith
Youth Organization and
Bnai Brith Lodge.
Many of them were also in
the third or fourth grades
together at MacCulloch
Elementary . . . in the
forerunner of Rex known as
"The Lucky 11" . . . Joe
Silberschein, Lenny Silber,
Murray Hozman, -Bernie
DeVine, Harold Finegood,
Sam Finegood, Herb Wein-
berg, Rubin Wallach, Artie--
Schreier and the late Al
Schiff and Newton Rotten-
berg.
Seventeen fellows re-
- cently attended the initial
reunion, without too many
others knowing abdut it, at
the Fairlane Club . . . Ron
Block, Milt Oleinick, Arlyn
Meyerson, Marvin Canner,
Martin Band, Bob Burke,
Frank Blase, Harry Dines,
Gert Freund, Herb Lef-
kofsky, Harry Goldberg, Ro-
land Naftaly, Silberschein,
Hozman, Sam and Harold
Finegood and Weinberg.
All are older, but some
still have the same ways
about them . . . Nostalgic
stories were traded . . .
Bob Russman sang "I'm
A Big Girl Now" . . . but
without those balloons he
wore on his chest at the
1948 Club Chez LeRoix
by the fellows.
A group like Rex cannot
have just one reunion and
call it a happening . . . This
time they'll gear for a big
turnout . . . March 26 . . .

NEW YORK — United
Jewish Appeal, in coopera-
tion with the Morris J. Kap-
lun Foundation, is sponsor-
ing an essay contest for
American university stu-
dents on the theme:
"Towards Jewish Survival
in the 21st Century: New
Visions and Strategies."
The nationwide competi-
tion is open to any under-
graduate or graduate stu-
dent in an accredited college
or university. An all ex-
pense paid trip to Israel will
be awarded to the authors of
the eight winning essays.
Candidates may not be
older than 25 years of age by
August 1981. Entries must
be between 1,500 and 2,500
words in length and must be
postmarked no later than
March 28. Contest winners
will be announced June 15.
For contest rules and in-
formation, contestants may
