THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Nuclear Scientist to Speak at Detroit Technion Meeting The American Technion Society, Detroit Chapter, will hear a talk on "Nuclear Energy in the Middle East" by Dr. Aviva Gileadi 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Ramada Inn, Southfield. The chairman of the eve- ,• ning's program will be Leon S. Cohan, senior vice president and general coun- sel of The Detroit Edison Co. Dr. Gileadi was born and educated in Budapest, Hungary, where she re- ceived her PhD degree in physics in 1941. In 1944, she was placed in a forced labor p, from which she es- ed after the war. She fled to Vienna where she met her husband, Michael. After the couple lived in a series of refugee camps, they made their_ Way to Israel in 1948. In Israel, Dr. Gileadi taught math and science on a kibutz. Later Dr. Gileadi, was senior lecturer at the department of nuclear science at Technion- Israel Institute of Technology and con- ducted inter-university courses at the Israeli Re- search Reactor at Nahal Soreq. DR. AVIVA GILEADI She had held positions of acting director and profes- sor, department of nuclear engineering, University of Puerto Rico as well as prin- cipal scientist at KMS Fu- sion, Inc. At present, Dr. Gileadi is principal engineer, nuclear engineer- ing division, Detroit Edison. Her husband is a noted composer and musician and they have two grown chil- dren. The public is invited.
