Danny Raskin's

The Best of Everything

THERE'S
A
TOUCHDOWN
being
made just about every time
someone orders at the new
PX Bar-B-Q of Flint . . . on
Southfield and 121/2 Mile .. .
in the Farrell Shopping
Plaza.
That's how owners John
Psaila and Marty Malatin
look at it in their operation
that has been getting so
much praise and approval
from people . . . There's a
certain distinct pride in the
food being served . . . with
ribs cooked on a rotisserie
after being basted with a
sauce that folks happily
used to travel to Flint for .. .
(the ribs are served dry on
request only).
PX Bar-B-Qt5n Southfield
has also become a place to go
for celebrities of all walks of
sports . . . John and Marty
are no strangers to them.
They met back in 1968
while roommates under
Coach Joe Schmidt and the
Detroit Lions . . . John was a
running back from the Kan-
sas City Chiefs . . . and
Marty a running back from
the Cleveland Browns.
The PX Bar-B-Q of Flint
is a 25-year-old operation
. . . and being here on South-
field and 12 1/2 Mile is a big
plus factor for the area .. .
Just about everything is the
same as the Flint set-up .. .
coordinated staff, recipes,
menu, etc.
Head cook at the PX in
•Southfield, Mark Levine,
son of Marian and Morris
Levine, has been at it since
he was 13 years old . . . He's
30 now, and considered
among the finest young
chefs in the area . . . espe-
cially when it comes to pre-
paring ribs and chicken.
Keeping with the football
background at PX Bar-B-Q,
Marty played three years of
center at Southfield High.
The PX menu is far from
being skimpy . . . Ribs,
chicken, steaks, 15 appetiz-
ers and side dishes,
spaghetti made to order,
Greek and antipasto salads,
etc.
Owners John and Marty
are "old pros" at winning .. .
Their PX Bar-B-Q on South-
field is already scoring a lot
of points with many people
. . . and the game has only
just begin at their Farrell's
Shopping Plaza site.
ARTHUR GIMSON,
'general manager of North-
field Hilton, Troy, was re-
cently elected a director (re-
presenting Michigan) of the
American Hotel and Motel
Association . . . Its 75 mem-
bers represent one million
hotel and' motel rooms.
WITH FOOD COSTS
spiraling and meet leading
the way, a new cookbook
put out by Concern, Inc.
. . . compiled and edited by
Grace Gruskin, its execu-
tive director, is an assis-
tance in fighting inflation
and the shrinking dollar.
The book is called, "I Am
Not A Vegetarian" ("Meat-
less main dishes for meat
eaters") . . . Grace says the
book was written "with the
most voracious meat-and-

potatoes person in mind."
It sells for $4.25 plus 17c
tax and 60` postage . . . To
get a copy, write to Concern,
Inc., 1 Northfield Plaza,
Troy, Mich. 48098.
The book's purpose is
to offer recipes and menu
suggestions to help in-
corporate vegetarian
proteins into a person's
diet ... It has about 54 re-
cipes for everything from
stuffed pepper to stew to
casseroles to stuffed
cabbage to potato kugel
to tempura to stroganoff
to turnovers to
enchiladas to fetticine to
cheeseburgers, etc. .
plus 10 interesting
household economy tips.
Like the first book pub-
lished by Concern, Inc.,
"This Can't Be Healthy, I
Like It" . . . "I Am Not A
Vegetarian" is also a mas-
terful compilation for nut-
ritious dining .. .
THERE'S A LOT of new
looks now at Jakks on
Greenfield and 10 Mile .. .
New and much brighter
wall decor, new kitchen,
new salad bar (with sneeze
proof plastic overhang), new
chandeliers, new owners .. .
and many new faces. The
same very fine employees
are there . . . and Jakks is
once again becoming a place
where people go to meet
