national product so that its
economic strength may
match its military might,
the chairman of the Knesset

In a briefing last week fol-

the United States, during
which he met withCongres-

previous books on the same
theme.

Chomsky states in his
preface that he does not
share •Flaurisson's views
but that he favors freedom
of opinion and expression.
He claims that the con-
troversy over this subject
will help reveal the real
truth and the extent of Nazi
atrocities in countries
which were not subjected to
Nazi occupation.

Chomsky has written
many articles over the years
supporting Palestinian
self-determination and
criticizing Israel for its atti-
tude toward the Palesti-
nians.

Flaurisson has been sued
by various civic organiza-
tions for spreading Nazi
propaganda. He considers
himself a member of the ex-
treme left in France and his

New Jewish Agenda' Group
Holds Washington Session

NEW YORK — Five
hundred Jewish leaders, in-
cluding rabbis, students,
human rights, civil rights
and anti-nuclear activists,
are discussing a "New
Jewish Agenda" at a na-
tional conference this week
in Washington, D.C:

Participants are explor-
ing "the creation of a new
alternate Jewish organiza-
tion that is responsive to
progressive values within a
Jewish context."
"We are determined to es-
tabl(ish a progressive
Jewish voice that is maxi-
mally participatory and
democratic," said Rabbi
Gerald Serotta, steering
committee chairman.
"We feel the current
Jewish organizational
structures are not as
egalitarian as we would
like. One of our definite
goals is to involve the un-
affiliated, disaffiliated and

especially those who feel the
politics of the American
Jewish community have
turned so rightward and
inward that they can no
longer feel comfortable in
that community," Rabbi
Serotta explained.

Emigres Disturb
Jewish Agency

JERUSALEM — Some
500,000 Israelis are cur-
rently living in the United
States according to gov-
ernment officials and a re-
cent report by the Jewish
Agency urges Prime Minis-
ter Menahem Begin to ap-
prove measures to deal with
the situation.
The two largest cities for
Israeli emigration in the
U.S. are 'New York
(220,000) and Los Angeles
(120,000). Emigres cite the
economic crisis in Israel as
their major reason for leav-
ing.
