5 medium onions, sliced
6 carrots, cut in two
5 lbs. boneless chuck roast
salt, pepper, garlic powder
to taste
meat tenderizer
one-half cup water
one-half lb. buckwheat groats
(kasha)
Season meat with tenderizer
and spices to taste. Place on-
ions, carrots, seasoned roast
and water in a Dutch oven.
Cook on low heat until tender,
about 3 hours. Prepare
buckwheat groats according
to directions on box. Slice
roast and pour meat, onions
and gravy over the kasha.
Serves 8.

Lecture on Communication
Lynn Metcalf, a com-
munications consultant
with the Huron Valley In-
stitute, will discuss the art
of creative persuasion at an
open meeting of the Jewish
Welfare Federation Junior
Division 8 p.m. Wednesday
in the LaMed Auditorium of

Metcalf, who holds a Mas-

Budgeting Focus
of Flint Federation
A newly established
planning and budget com-
mittee of the Flint Jewish
Federation has begun a
series of meetings to
recommend current and
long-range budgetary and
other needs for the Flint
Jewish community.
Headed by Milt Weiss,
the 21-member group hopes
to propose a 1981 budget for
local and national alloca-
tions at the December meet-
ing of the Federation board
of directors. A sub-
committee was scheduled to
meet this week with United
Jewish Appeal regional
representatives to explore
the possibility of commit-
ting a specific percentage of
local contributions for UJA
purposes.
