nary of America will intro-
duce a new master's pro-
gram this summer designed
to prepare principals for
Jewish day schools.
The new program, which
begins in July, can be com-

summers in residence at the
seminary in New York, and
the intervening academic
year at any accredited uni-
versity.
Jewish Senate Seat Remark
Target of AJCongress Ire
NEW YORK (JTA) —
Spokesmen for Jewish
organizations have angrily
rejected the contention by a
local Republican leader that
if his party hopes to defeat
Democrat Sen. Daniel
Moynihan in the 1982 elec-
tions it needs "an outstand-
ing Jewish candidate."
The remark, implying
that Jewish voters will vote
for a Jew regardless of other

factors, was made by George
Clark Jr., Republican Party
chairman in Brooklyn, on a
television interview Sun-
day. He suggested the
Moynihan's seat "should be
the Jewish seat," observing
that the Jewish vote "has
been the deciding vote in
every statewide election."
Reacting to that state-
ment, Henry Siegman,
executive director of the
American Jewish Con-
gress declared, "There is
no such thing as a
Jewish seat' in the
United States Senate,
whether from New York
or any other state."
Siegman charged that
"Mr. Clark unwittingly
plays the game of the radi-
cal right wing in this coun-
try who urge Americans to
`vote Christian.'

DALLAS (JTA) — The Is-
rael Scene Mobile, also
known as the Zionist Cara-
van, an information and
aliya project conducted by
five former Americans now
living in Israel, has con-
cluded a hectic tour of 21
communities in nine states,
in the course of 35 days.
It began its activities
with a Washington, D. C.
send-off rally and finished
its circuit here and was seen
by an estimated seven mil-
lion people.
"I think we have broken
through certain old barriers
in the concept of `shlikhut,'
or the sending of emissaries
from Israel, to spread the
Zionist message," Charley
Levine, project director,
said.
"Most Israelis come to
raise funds or to work on
specific projects. We came to
do something completely
different — to discuss what
Zionism is all about, and to
discuss the joys and chal-
lenges of living in Israel."
New Efforts
for Wallenberg
LOS ANGELES — The
Simon Wiesenthal Center is
starting an international
letter-writing campaign,
seeking support for the fam-
ily of Raoul Wallenberg, the
young Swedish diplomat
who saved thousands of
Hungarian Jews from the
Nazis during World War II
and was subsequently ar-
rested by the Russians.
International hearings on
behalf of Wallenberg are
scheduled to be held in
Stockholm Jan. 15-17. Fol-
lowing his arrest in 1945,
the Soviet Union claims
that Wallenberg 'died in
prison in 1947. However,
several former Soviet pris-
oners have claimed to have
seen the Swedish diplomat
in recent years.
Letters to the Wallenberg
family supporting the in-
ternational hearings should
be mailed to the family c/o

ter, 9760 W. Pico Blvd., Los

AZA Council to Benefit JNF
Discussing the forthcoming project of the Great
Lakes AZA Council to benefit the Jewish National
Fund, are from left: Robert Ellmann, AZA Council
mazkir, who personally sold more than 300 trees in the
1978 drive; Alan Herbach, assistant director of the
JNF; Mark Bakst, AZA Council president; and Bria
Ackerson, assistant director of the Bnai Brith Youth
Organization, parent agency of AZA.
Leaders of the Great
Lakes AZA Council of
Michigan have inaugurated
a campaign to complete the
planting of a 2,500-tree
woodland in Israel through
the Jewish National Fund.
The woodland, to be lo-
cated in the Bnai Brith For-
est of Peace in the Galilee, is
an expansion of the AZA
grove established in 1978 by
the council.
The campaign, which will
begin in January, is headed
by Barry Stern, programm-
ing vice president of Beber
Chapter. Each chapter in
the Great Lakes Region will
participate.
