the rights of loyal citizens
than the terrorist con-

sists in treating as "loyal
opposition." The KKK
and the American Nazis
are NOT "loyal opposi-
fion," and to raise money
to protect their continu-
ing crusades and then to
try to raise money to at-
tack a loyal opposition
(that thinks it's now in the
majority) is simply
frivolous.
There is ample evidence

Century of Genocide, as to
what distinguishes loyal

opposition from disloyal and
terrorist activity. The fact
that the ACLU can't make
the distinction doesn't
change the picture: it sim-
ply documents how slowly
academics and theoreti-
cians catch up with the facts
of life.
Legal theoreticians and
religious theoreticians
(theologians) share a com-
mon fault: they tend to cling
to systems of carefully
worked out thought long
after the facts of life and his-
tory have materially
changed. America was dis-
covered in 1492, but it
wasn't until 1642 that a
Protestant theologian pub-
lished a book discussing the
implications of that dis-
covery for missions and the
expansion of Christianity.
The easy way in which
the bureaucrats of the Na-
tional Council of Churches
slip into hostility to the
Jews and Israel shows that
they haven't yet confronted
the implications of the
church struggle and the
Holocaust. They easy way

ties Union confuse advocacy

We're having a very special birthday party and we'd like you to
come.
The date: MAY 11, 1981. The Place: One thousand theatres
around the world. The Guest of Honor: The state of Israel.
On this chosen night, we've planned an extraordinary celebra-
tion for her 33rd birthday. Celebration 33. For you and for her.
For Israel, the occasion will be a thousand theatre salute to a
dream 33 years young. And there's a present too. A major gift to
educational institutions in Israel, including Haifa University —
the only institution of liberal arts in the north of Israel servicing
over one-third of Israel's population.
For you, the event will be the biggest theatre party ever, featur-
ing the world premiere of an important. exciting and very fitting
motion picture, The Chosen," from Chaim Potok's towering
best-seller. Its cast includes Maximil-
ion Schell, Rod Steiger, Robby Be-
nson and Barry Miller, directed by
Jeremy Paul Kagan. It is produced by
Edie and Ely Landau.
In addition, for this night only, there will
be the onscreen appearance of an ex-
traordinary group of super-stars of the
entertainment world.
Just imagine. On the same night from New York and Los
Angeles to Rome, and from London and Paris to Dallas
everyone will toot the birthday horns in a blast that will be heard
around the world.
This is your personal invitation to take part in the most unique
celebration ever. Join us for the happiest birthday party in 5,741
years.

CHAIRMAN OF "CELEBRATION 33": MICHAEL STEIN
(Continued from Page 1)
Perhaps the most
bizarre part of Prof. Arian's
visit to Poland came when
he attended a performance
of Warsaw's famous Yiddish
theater, "the most heavily
subsidized of all Polish
theaters,'? according to
Arian. He was told that the
Yiddish theater now em-
ployed several non-Jews in
youthful roles, since the
dwindling and aging Jewish
community could no longer
supply young, Yiddish-
speaking actors for the
parts. A special school for
the training of Gentile ac-
tors in Yiddish had been
opened.
At the University of
Warsaw, where he was a
guest speaker, Prof. Arian
was told he was the first Is-
raeli lecturer since 1967. He
found his audience well-
educated in events taking
place in the Middle East,
and well-versed in Western
writings on various sub-
jects.
He added that in "off-
the-record" talks with the
Polish intellectuals, he was
told that if someday a Polish
independent government
could be created, or the pro-
per atmosphere arose, many
Poles desired contact with
Israel.

sinister and mysterious oc-

haven't learned the lessons
of totalitarian and terrorist
politics.
There may be good rea-
sons for attacking the
religious and political
stance of "the Moral
Majority." There may be
even better reasons for
coming up with a better
alternative for a pluralis-
tic American society.
But neither the National
Council of Churches, which
has yet to face the reality of
the anti-Semitic malaise
which corrupts Chris-
tianity, nor the American
Civil Liberties Union,
which has yet to understand
the nature of terrorist con-
spiracies, is a satisfactory
guide for those who love lib-
erty and republican style for
government.
