THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Maurice Boukstein, Zionist Leader, NY Attorney NEW YORK (JTA) — Maurice Boukstein, It- dis- tinguished American Zionist leader and New York attorney, died Nov. 18 at age 75. Since 1946 he served as legal adviser to the Jewi -ib. Agency and the World Zionist Organization. In that capacity, in 1952, he negotiated with Premier David Ben-Gurion the enactment by the Knesset of the Law of Status of the -7, rld Zionist Organization Lid the Jewish Agency which he brought up to date in 1979. Mr. Boukstein was actively involved in de- veloping the legal framework of the leading organizations assisting in the development of Israel: the United Jewish Appeal and the United Palestine Appeal-United Israel. Ap- peal which he served as legal adviser for four de- cades. He was also the gen- eral counsel to Hadassah. Mr. Boukstein drafted the agreement which re- sulted in the reconstitu- tion of the Jewish Agency for Israel in 1971. He was directly involved in, and made major contribu- tions to the negotiations with the Federal Repub- lic of Germany for com- pensation and indemnifi- cation for victims of Nazi persecution. He was chairman of the board and president and the founder and for three de- cades the counsel of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. He was also a former JTA board member. In Memory Of Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother Dr. Donald Kurtz Zionist affairs since 1932, Mr. Boukstein was a member of the board of goV- ernors and in 1970-1971 served as chairman of the executive council of the Weizmann Institute of Sci- ence in Rehovot, Israel. He also was legal adviser and one of the founders of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute. The institute awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1976. • He served on numerous Zionist bodies, including the American Zionist Emergency Council, the Zionist Organization of America and Jewish Na- tional Fund. Freda Steinberg Dr. Donald Kurtz, an in- structor at Harvard Medical School and a neurologist in private practice at Boston- area hospitals, died Nov. 5 at age 41. A native Detroiter, Dr. Kurtz made his home in Newton Centre, Mass. He was graduated from the University of Michigan and its medical school. He studied at the School of Neurology. in London, England, and did research at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda. He was a resident at Boston City Hospital and a research fel- low at Massachusetts Gen eral Hospital. Dr. Kurtz was a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Society. He was on the staffs of several hospi- tals. Dr. Kurtz was a member of Temple Beth Avodah in Newton Centre. He is survived by his wife, Natalie; two sons, Jonathan and Kenneth; a daughter, Karen; his mother, Mrs. Irvin J. (Henrietta) Kurtz of Southfield; two sisters, Jane Rodney of New Jersey and Carol Feinberg of New York City. Interment Borton. .
