of the Jerusalem Symphony
Orchestra, Russian-born Is-
raeli Gary Bertini, has been
named music director of the
Detroit Symphon'y Or-
chestra for the next two
years. Bertini will replace
Antal Dorati.
Bertini, 53, is also princi-
pal guest conductor of the
Scottish National Or-
chestra. He has held the
Jerusalem Symphony posi-
tion since 1978, and con-
ducted the Detroit Sym-
phony in January 1978 and
for three weeks in February
of this year.
He has conducted most
of the world's leading or- -
,chestras and had to be re-
leased from engagements
in Berlin, Cologne and Is-
rael in order to accept the
