There are currently
Lubavitch representatives
at more than 200 colleges
and universities in the
United States and Canada.
Rabbi Shmuel Butman,
director of the Lubavitch
Youth Organization, said
the representatives func-
tion at colleges of all types
and sizes. More than 100
young Lubavitch profes-
sionals serve in the colleges,
part-time and full-time.
Butman declared that the
movement operates perma-
nent facilities at more than
50 American campuses. The
range is from fully-
equipped "Habad" houses,
to store front - and

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Some 1,687 new immig-
rants arrived in Israel last
month, compared to 1,525 in
September, the Jewish
Agency reported. The
largest group of immig-
rants, 394, came from the
Soviet Union, and 267 came
from the United States.
In the first 10 months of
this year some 18,869 im-
migrants arrived in Israel, a
drop of 40 percent from the
same period last year when
31,666 immigrants arrived.
The decrease was among
Soviet immigrants — 7,160
compared to 14,654 in the
first 10 months of 1979, a
decrease of more than 50
percent.
A slight increase was re-
corded in the number of
immigrants from Romania:
some 889 in January-
October, 1980, compared to
717 in the same period last
year.

representatives.
An important adjunct to
the on-campus Lubavitch
activities is a yearly mid-
winter "Encounter with
Habad," held in Brooklyn's
Crown Heights section, the
international headquarters
of the Hasidic movement.
The encounters — one for
men and a separate one for
women — draw college stu-
dents from all parts of the
United States, Butman
said.
This year, the first
weekend, Dec. 18-21, will be
for women. The second, Dec.
25-Dec. 28, will be for men.
Butman said the weekends
offer a Shabat experience
for participants with a
Hasidic family, plus work-
shops, seminars and
entertainment.
