MS. Goldgar reported that the purchase is only one of many real estate develop-. ments by Abdul Latif Jameel and his sons, Yousef and Mohammed. The Southern Israelite learned about the family and the Netherlands Antilles corpo- ration they own, Jameel Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd., through the local office of the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith. Jameel also plans to build -a $24 million office tower in Orlando, Fla., and also re- cently bought Miami's tal- lest building, One Biscayne Tower, for more than $49 million, Ms. Goldgar re- ported. Jameel's American representative, Lewis Harmon, was quoted by the Miami News as saying Yousef Jameel told him he had no "restraints" against investing in an area in which many Jews are _involved as long as "they had no restraints against him." Harmon also said that the Jameel's Miami law firm has a number of Jewish partners and that in Los Angeles they are repre- sented by a firm that is pre- dominantly Jewish. Findley Won by Smaller Margin NEW YORK (JTA) — A Jewish Telegraphic Agency article reported that in- cumbent Rep. Paul Findley (R-Ill:) received 77 percent of the vote in Illinois Nov. 4. However, David Robinson, the Jewish Democrat who opposed Findley in the elec- tion, told the JTA that Findley had received only 55 percent of the vote and that he himself had received 45 percent of the vote. Robinson added that he ran 15 points ahead of the Democratic ticket in Il- linois. ,„,„e) INcluONG: BAKED POTATO No couPeN1 17.9 DINNER SALAD N' HOT ROLL tN VAT UGLY BUILD ING-545 W9MU.E iN MOM. powgoviri FORPICALE a to: apt illfours 95 Foreign Aid for Israel Awaits Congress OK WASHINGTON (JTA) — The foreign aid authoriza- tion bill for fiscal 1981, which contains $1.4 billion in foreign military sales credits for Israel and an additional $785 million in economic support funds, was approved by the House-Senate conference committee. The bill now has to be ap- proved by both houses of Congress and is expected to be taken up there early next month. In addition to aid for Is- rael, the bill also recom- mended $550 million in military sales credits for Egypt and $750 million in support funds. In addition, Egypt would receive $274 million under the Public Law 480 Food Program. The only other Middle East country slated to re- ceive a significant amount of aid is Jordan which would get $100 million evenly di- vided between economic support funds and military sales credits. Island Resort Is Story Behind Fishman Novel "Paradise," the new novel written by Ken Fishman, tells the story of the Rat- tlers, a Jewish family in pursuit of the American dream. The book's central char- acter is Irving Ratner, pat- riarch of the Ratner family, a self-made millionaire raised on New York's Lower East Side. Tired of city life, Ratner moves his wife and three daughters to a Carib- bean island, where he builds the Paradise Hotel and transforms the quiet is- land into a booming tourist resort. Ratner's visions of a quiet life dissolve as his quest for power turns the island re- sort into a storm center of ruthless ambition involving his family, his closest friends and the figureheads of organized crime. Fishman teaches drama- tic writing at New York University and was co- author of the 1974 film, "Law and Disorder." Hanuka Drive Aids Children Colel Chabad, Lubavitch Foundation in Israel, is cur- rently conducting its "Hanuka in the Children's Wards" campaign to benefit terminally ill and sick chil- dren in Israel's hospitals.
