Goldman WASHINGTON (JTA) — Hymen Goldman, a retired Washington businessman and a founder of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington, died Nov. 15 at age 92. Born in Russia, Mr. Goldman lived in Canada before coming to Washing- ton in 1907. He was a found- ing partner of the Standard Cigar and Tobacco Co., a local wholesale tobacco op- tion, from which he re- ad in 1970 as chairman of the board. He also was founder and director emeritus of the Macke Corp. A longtime leader of the Washington Jewish com- munity, Mr. Goldman was president of the Jewish Community Council in the 1940s. He was vice president of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and honorary vice president of the Zionist Organization of America and honorary president of its Louis Brandeis Zionst District here. Mr. Goldman was president of the Hebrew Home for the Aged of Greater Washington in the 1940s and 1950s and its honorary president at the time of his death. He was also an honorary board member of both in the Jewish Social Service Agency and the Jewish Community Center and a life board member of Adas Israel Congregation. In 1968, Georgetown University's theology de- partment established a lec- tureship in Jewish studies in honor of Mr. Goldman. His autobiography, "I Could Write A Book," was pub- lished in 1974. Benjamin Falek Benjamin Falek, a tool maker for the automotive industry, died Nov. 14 at age 91. Born in Austria, Mr. Falek was the recording secretary for the Jewish Community Center Culture Club for 17 years.
