For eight years, he said, he concentrated on surrealistic themes, de- veloping a special technique of pen and ink drawings on white paper. "The last two years I spent in Israel," Rahm said. "But in Israel, for reasons unknown to me, I did not draw. I thought maybe I reached the end of the road as an artist." ' But as it turned out, Rahm did not reach the end of the road. He simply changed direction. In the last few months, while in the U.S., he has been busy with more realistic types of drawings —"detailed draw- ings of animals and birds," he explained. Instead of black ink he now uses brown ink "which is much warmer and softer." He said that he is presently building up a collection of drawings with a plan to exhibit them in New York in the very near future. The unique photo- graphs are from the newly published book, "Judith Turner Photographs Five Architects" — a volume that includes selections from the work of five lead- ing New York architects: Charles Gwathmey, Peter Eisenman, John Hejduk, Michael Graves and Richard Meier. Judith Turner's achieve- ments as a photographer are underscored by the fact that she began taking photographs only a few years ago, in 1972, when she returned to the United States after living for a few years in Israel. * * The latest best seller in Israel is "Feathers" (Not-. zot), a novel by a young Is- raeli writer named Chaim Beer. * * * The number one song in Israel is "Four O'Clock in the Morning," sung by Yehudit Ravitz. * * * American poet Stanley Kunitz is currently visit- ing Israel at the invita- tion of Mayor Teddy Kol- lek of Jerusalem. "This is my first visit to Israel," the Pulitzer Prize win- ning poet said in a news- paper interview in Tel Aviv. "Why? Maybe be- cause I was not invited before. But I always wanted to come here." * * * The Israel Museum in Jerusalem is holding an ex- hibition featuring the best of the 100 Picasso drawings of the Vollar Series. The Is- rael Museum is one of the few museums in the world to possess the complete series. Vollar was a French art collector who ordered the Picasso work in 1937. The exhibition in Jerusalem is in honor of the 100th anniversary of the ar- tist's birth.
