THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Parlor Set for Holocaust Center Jewish communal leaders will take another step toward construction of the Holocaust Memorial Center when they gather at 8 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Birmingham home of Mr. and Mrs. David Hermelin. The Holocaust Memorial Center, to be constructed as an addition to the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, has been de- signed by architect Leonard G. Siegal of the firm of Siegal/Tuomaala Associ- ates. Guests at the Nov. 24 parlor meeting will hear more about the plans, ac- cording to Samuel Hechtman, chairman of the HMC-Jewish Community Center building committee. Guest speaker will be Prof. Alice L. Eckardt, spe- cial consultant to the President's Commission on the Holocaust, who will narrate slides from the President's Mission to East- ern Europe. A member of the history and religion studies faculties at Lehigh University, she has taught and lectured widely on the Holocaust. Iri 1944, the late Bernard Baruch established a Com- mittee on Physical Medicine in memory of his father, Dr. Simon Baruch, who was internationally recognized as a hyd- rotherapy specialist. Ber- nard Baruch contributed $1,250,000 to Columbia- Presbyterian Medical Cen- ter, New York University- Bellevue Institute of Physi- cal Medicine and Rehabili- tation, Medical College of Virginia, and other medical centers.
