p.m. Monday at Cong. Bnai
David.
Naftaly is a member of
the council's executive
committee and chairman of
the national agencies and
community relations di-
vision of the Jewish Welfare

The program also will in-

relations. President Marian
Shifman will welcome the
delegates.
The Bnai David Sister-
hood will host a social hour
after the assembly.

Findley: Strauss Backed
Him on Contacts With PLO

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Rep. Paul Findley (R-Ill.),
fighting for re-election
against Democratic chal-
lenger David Robinson, has
declared President Carter's
campaign chairman, Robert
Strauss, gave him "full
backing" on his contacts
with Palestine Liberation
Organization Chief Yasir
Arafat and espousal of U.S.
negotiation with the ter-
rorist organization.

Couple Marks
60th Anniversary

THE LAXES

Former Detroiters Mr.
and Mrs. Sigmond Lax of
Ramat-Gan, Israel, cele-
brated their 60th wedding
anniversary Oct. 27.
The Laxes were members
of Cong. Bnai Moshe and
Pisgah Lodge of Bnai Brith
while in Detroit.
They are the parents of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold-Lax of
Israel, Mr. and Mrs. David
Cern of Raanana, Israel,
and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lax
of West Bloomfield. The
senior Laxes have 12
grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildfen.

way encouraged" Findley in
his PLO affairs.
Official Administration
policy is that the U.S. will
not deal with the PLO until
it accepts United Nations
Security Council Resolu-
tions 242 and 338 and Is-

weekend Nov. 15-17 at the

be Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Greenberg of Chicago, Ill.;
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Voight

UJA Leader Has
Heart Attack

NEW YORK (JTA) — Irv-
ing Bernstein, executive
vice chairman of the United
Jewish Appeal, was taken
ill in Israel during the re-
cent meeting of the. Jewish
Agency Board of Governors.
The illness was diagnosed
as a mild heart attack, a
spokesperson for the UJA
said. He is currently under
treatment and resting com-
fortably.

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
grant of $22,245 from the
Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies has been re-
ceived by the education de-
partment of the Jewish
Museum of New York to
create programs to intro-
duce newly-arrived Soviet
Jewish immigrants to
Jewish history and culture.
"Acculturation Experi-
ences for Russian Immig-
rants" starts this month and
will run through September
1981.
