He said the increase from $390 million to $450 million was based on a projected 10 percent increase in income from the United Jewish Ap- peal, amounting to $45 mil- lion, which he called "a con- siderable addition." Lewinsky said at a press conference that the Jewish Agency was making every effort to cope with economic difficulties and inflation. It has eliminated 500 jobs out of 4,500 and undertaken other saving schemes which made possible the allocation of some $4 million for the development of outpost set- tlements in Galilee,. Lewinsky said. An additional $6 mil- lion has been budgeted for development of the "Shalom region" where seven-eight settlements will be built to replace settlements in the Yamit region of northern Sinai which must be evacuated by the end of next year. Lewinsky reported that only $20 million of the $80 million Project Renewal budget was spent this year. NEW YORK — The first major archeological exhibi- tion . to be held at the Yeshiva University Museum will open Nov. 16. Entitled "Daily Life in An- cient Israel," the exhibition was prepared with the aid of a planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The guest curator, Dr. Harold Liebowitz, assistant professor of archeology at the University of Texas at Austin and an alumnus of Yeshiva College and Yeshiva University's affil- iated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, is responsible for organizing the exhibition. A total of 100 archeologi- cal objects will be shown, ranging from household utensils and craftsmen's tools to jewelry and weapons from such sites as Megiddo, Gibeon, Beth Shemesh and Tel Yin'am. They have been lent by the Oriental Institute of Chicago, the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Texas Memorial Museum in Austin and the Department of Antiquities of the state of Israel. Among Top Ten TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Gabriel Gidor, director gen- eral of Israel Aircraft Indus- tries, says the firm now ranks among the top 10 companies in its field. The firm manufactures 300 products for 40 coun- tries, employs 2,500 scien- tists and 80,000 workers, and has signed contracts during the last 2 1/2 years 11. ■ I 0 1 • 1 1 • But next year, allocations will be targeted on some 2,500 specific reconstruc- tion projects that have been approved. The Jewish Agency allo- cated about $105 million this year for the absorption of new immigrants while the government supplied $15 million for that pur- Lewinsky said. He noted that an agree- ment has been reached with the government whereby the Jewish Agency hence- forth will finance only the early stages of absorption and the rest will be covered by the government. He said this plan would allow further cuts in the agency's budget and avoid duplica- tion. THE KOSHER HOTEL SFAtULL Reopening Nov.24 b T Ps T G s aL b a R always @ NATIONAL KASHRUTH R abbi A .
