tion Council--of Metropoli-
tan Detroit has responded
with disdain to a "Jews for
Jesus" conference that was
held in Southfield last
weekend.
The Rev. Edward B.
Willingham Jr. responded
to a letter from Alvin Kush-
ner, executive director of
the Jewish Community
Council of Metropolitan De-
troit.
Rev. Willingham wrote:
"This sort of problem is
complicated by the fact that
the general public might see
such action as the position
of all. Christians. Such is not
the case. The Highland
Park Baptist Church, lo-
cated in Southfield, is a part
of the Conservative Baptist
Association of Michigan.
That group is very indepen-
dent and fundamental in its
positions . . . and is not a
member of our council.

"It is my conviction that
the "Jews for Jesus" philos-
ophy would be very dis-
tasteful to those who par-
ticipate in our council. Our
churches have enjoyed a
rich heritage of cooperation
with our brothers and sis-
ters in the Jewish commu-
nity. Many interfaith ac-
tivities and ventures have
drawn us together and will
continue to do so.

oree Dr. Eli Brown, Bonds chairman David Holtzman

"The matter of 'evangeli-
zation' is a complicated one,
dealt with by each commun-
ion or denomination, on its
own, but I can assure you
that those communions
which now work with us
would took with disdain at
the 'Jews for Jesus' move-
ment and would not wish to
be linked with those Chris-
tian churches which pro-
mote such activity."

Israel's Settlement Policies

The resolution adopted by
