He will be the final lecturer in the Midrasha- Hadassah mini-mester series. Dr. Covensky earned BA, MA and PhD degrees at the University of Michigan. He is the author of two books. Dr. Covensky has re- ceived an award for creative teaching from the Michigan Adult Education Society and an award for excellence in teaching from Wayne State University. DR. The award is presented by the city of Bad Gandersheim, West Germany to com- memorate the first woman author in the German lan- guage, Roswitha von Gan- dersheim, who wrote be- tween the years 960 and 973 CE. Auslaender was born in 1907 in. Austria-Hungary. During the Nazi period she lived in the United States, returning to the 'Federal Republic in 1965. In the presentation speech, Auslaender's work was praised for its "shor- thand of fear," its shaping of language to reflect the feat that the "annihilation madness" of the Third Reich may recur. Since 1965, Auslaender has lived in a Jewish old- age home in DuesseldOrf.
