Council Heads Food Drive

The Jewish Community
. Council is coordinating a
food collection drive to bene-
fit local emergency food
providers.
Persons who wish to do-
nate food for the drive, spec-
ifically canned goods and
basic non-perishable foods,
should drop off their dona-
tions at the Birmingham
Temple, 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Mondays through Thurs-
days; Temple Emanu-El, 9
a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, Tues-
day, Thursday and Friday

and 9-11:30 a.m. -Sundays;
and at Beth Shalom, 9
a.m.-4 p.m. Monday
through Thursdays.

Among the items for
which there is the most need
are (in cans): soups, stew,
corn, beans, yams, tuna,
condensed milk, fruit, juice
and chili; in jars, applesauce
and peanut butter; and

Himelhoch Award to Wie-
senthal.
Wiesenthal, founder and
head of the Jewish
Documentation Center in
Vienna, has ferreted out
nearly 1,000 war criminals,
including . Adolph
Eichmann. Wiesenthal's
most wanted criminal is Dr.
Josef Mengele, physician at
Auschwitz. Wiesenthal's
memoirs, "The Murderers
Among Us," was published
in 1967:

Center Russian Accultura-
tion Committee will present
Prof. Vladimir Frumkin in
a recital-lecture 7 p.m. Sun-
day at the Morris Branch of
the Jewish Community
Center. His topic is "Soviet
`Unofficial' Songs."
Prof. Frumkin teaches at
Oberlin College, Ohio. He
formerly taught at the
Leningrad Conservatory. In
1974, he emigrated from the
Soviet Union, where he was
well-known for his many
musical radio and television
programs.
.Since the mid 1960s, he
has been involved in re-
searching and popularizing
the music of today's Russian
composers, especially Bulat
Okudzhana and Galich
whose songs will be fea-
tured Sunday. Prof. Frum-

kin accompanies himself on
guitar. The program will be
in Russian.
The program is open to
the public at a nominal
charge.
