Conservative Seminary Tells
Plan for Library Complex

NEW YORK — The
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary of America will break
ground Sunday for a library
complex. The new construc-
tion is part of a total plan
which will rehouse the li-
brary and provide
classrooms, studies and
offices for the many na-
tional programs emanating

A BAR MITZVAH OR BAS MITZVAH
YOU WILL BE PROUD OF

Today he is a man. Today she is a
woman. That "today" is one that should
be special in every respect. That's why
Stouffer's® takes pride in making sure that
your Bar Mitzvah or Bas Mitzvah is
catered with special care. That the food
is just as you want it. That the service is
something special. That our surroundings,
rooftop-high, are exactly right. Bring your
special occasion to Stouffer's, catering
experts for large gatherings or small.

from the seminary, schol-
arly and spiritual center for
Conservative Judaism.
The new building will re-
place the areas ravaged by
fire in 1966, and will pro-
vide space for the semi-
nary's priceless collections
of Judaica.
Added to the three
structures dedicated in
1930, the library complex
will almost double the space
available on the seminary
campus at 122nd Street and
Broadway. Completion of
the building program is ex-
pected in 1983. '
The present seminary
plant was designed to ac-
commodate an enroll-
ment of 30 rabbinical
students and 20 under-
graduates, as against a
present enrollment of 500
with a faculty of 150.
In addition, the seminary
today is the headquarters
for Ramah, a national
camping movement, Eter-
nal Light and other regular
network programs on radio
and television, extensive in-
tergroup activities, and
many outreach programs,
serving the more than 800
congregations and 200,000
families affiliated with the
Conservative movement in
American Judaism.
The seminary was
founded 94 years ago, dur-
ing the mass immigration to
this country of Jews from
Eastern Europe. It was in
part the response of Jewish
Americans, many of them
descendants of families set-
tled in the new world since
colonial times, to the chal-
lenges presented by the new
arrivals.
