Schindler,

Conference, said the major
lesson learned from the
synagogue bombing is that
"the unjustified blackening
of Israel by governments of
Western Europe diminishes
the status of the Jews" and
that "the extortionist price

He said he told the.
French envoy that the atti-
tude of the Jewish commu-
nity in America and Ameri-

France "is going to be
tainted" as a result of the
French government's pro-
Arab policy.

first aimed at. Jews is later
used against other
minorities and religious
groups.
He said that in his short
visit to France after the
bombing, he found that
"French Jews are deeply
concerned that the new
Nazis who seek to destroy
Jewish lives have been
encouraged by official
laxity and inattention to
the violent nature of the
anti-Semitic movement in
France."
Concluding the meeting,
Squadron said the Jewish
communities' response all
over the world to the latest
anti-Semitic outbreak is
going to be firm and united
to show the world that to-
day's world "is not the
same" as in the past and
Jews "are not going to be
victimized that easily."
Rabbi Joseph Sternstein,

PARIS (JTA) — Neo-Nazi
Marc Fredriksen, leader of
the outlawed Federation of
European Nationalist Ac-
tion (FANE), was sentenced
to 18 months imprisonment
last Friday on charges of in-
citement to racial hatred.
But 12 months of the sen-
tence were suspended.
The 46-year-old former
bank clerk was also fined
3,000 Francs ($750) and
30,000. Francs ($7,500) in
damages to five anti-fascist
and veterans organizations
which had brought the civil
suit against him.
Fredriksen was not in
court. He is still' hos-
pitalized for serious injuries
sustained when he and
other neo-Nazis clashed
with a group of Jewish
militants at a Paris railroad
station.
Schewin,
Jean
president of the court,
said the Fredriksen arti-
cles = in his neo-Nazi
newspaper, "Our
Europe," constituted "a
serious breach of the
peace" and were offen-
sive to millions of people.
One of Fredriksen's con-
tentions is that the
Holocaust never oc-
curred but was a hoax in-
vented by Jews to extort
money from Germany.
His sentence was pro-
nounced just two weeks
after unidentified terrorists
bombed the Rue Copernic
Temple. His organization
has not claimed responsibil-
ity for that outrage. But it
did take credit for the
machinegun attacks on five
Jewish institutions in Paris
a week earlier in which no
one was injured.
Extraordinary security
measures were taken inside
the court building and the
surrounding area while the
verdict was being read. Al-
though Jewish organiza-
tions called on their mem-
bers not to demonstrate,
several hundred young
Jewish militants turned up
at the court building, many
wearing steel helmets and
carrying clubs or metal
bars. None of Fredriksen's
followers showed 'up.

president of the American
Zionist Federation, also met
with the French ambas-
sador last week.
The French embassy in
Washington was the scene
of a "vigil of solidarity" by
150 persons who presented
a statement to the embassy
expressing their concern for
the Jews of France.

Arabs Released

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Military Government
released 24 security pris-
oners on the West Bank this
week on the occasion of the
start of the Moslem feast of _
Id Al Adha. The prisoners
had relatively short times
left to complete their sen-
tences.
Seven other Arab pris-
oners serving time for crim-
inal offenses were also re-
leased.
It was announced last
week that 33 Arabs serving
prison terms for criminal or
security offenses in the
Gaza Strip would be re-
leased as a gesture of good
will.
As the four-day holiday
began, thousands of Arab
workers stayed away from
their jobs in Israel severely
disrupting the economy,
especially in the service in-
dustries where many are
employed.
