"The Four Winds of Heaven" is her first novel. Peter Hellman will speak 1 p.m. Nov. 4 on "The Significance of Righteous Gentiles." His book, "Avenue of the Righteous of Nations," has just been published. Hellman tells the stories of four of the righteous and those whom they were able to save during the Holocaust. To research The Avenue of the Righteous," Hellman travelled to eight countries — Belgium, France, Hol- land, Poland, Canada, Italy, England and Israel. At 10 a.m. Nov. 5, the Book Fair speaker will be Brenda Lesley Segal, author of "The Tenth Measure." Her topic will be "The Heritage of Masada." Her appear- ance will be co- sponsored by Detroit Women of Alpha Omega Dental Auxiliary and Women's Auxiliary of the Maimonides Medical Society. "The Tenth Measure" takes place in the First Cen- tury CE, and the narrative sweeps from the cultivated order of Jewish homes to the hideous squalor of sacked cities, from teeming mar- ketplaces to the harsh silent desert, and from decadent Roman palaces to the sol- emn beauty of Masada. Brenda Segal has been working on "The Tenth Measure" for 12 years. The Book Fair speaker at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 is Cynthia Freeman. Her appear- ance is co-sponsored by Brandeis University Na- tional Women's Commit- tee and the National Council of Jewish Women. Ms. Freeman, the author of "Portraits" and "A World Full of Stangers," has now written a new book of love and commitment entitled "Come Pour the Wine." The heroine embarks on a journey of self-discovery, beginning with her arrival in New York from Kansas as a naive 19-year-old. His appearance will be co-sponsored by the Jewish National Fund and the Zionist Organization of Detroit. "Five Minutes to Mid- night" is fast-paced fiction set in the world of interna- tional terrorism. Through a story of intrigue, the author confronts the possibility that terrorists with access to nuclear weapons could hold the world at bay. Dr. Shabtai, a PhD in political science from the University of Chicago, is a native Israeli. For three years he was a Fellow of the Adlai Stevenson Institute of International Affairs in Chicago, specializing in problems of violence and in- ternational terrorism. He has worked for the Israeli government in different capacities, and has served as a consultant and lecturer on terrorism and hijackings to airlines, police and SWAT teams, and the U.S. Army. The title of Dr. Shabtai's -talk is "Terrorism in the 1980s." II i tOliei r 10, 1980 53 OC Mrs. Aronoff Named to Head Michigan AIPAC Chapter Mrs. Arnold Aronoff has been named to head the Michigan chapter of AIPAC, the American Is- rael Public Affairs Commit- tee. She succeds Morris Brandwine and W. B. Doner, who were co- chairmen of the committee for the past five years. As an initial act to in- crease interest in the work of AIPAC, the committee that acts polit- ically to enlighten public opinion on Israel's role as a democratic force in theworld, and as Israel's most dependable friend of the United States in the Middle East, Mrs. Aronoff announces that a luncheon meeting will be held at Tam-O-Shanter Country Club at noon on Oct. 29.
