Honored at the dinner will be Dr. Eli M. Brown, chairman of the Depart- ment of Anesthesiology at Sinai Hospital since 1954, and professor and chairman of Anesthesiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Brown, a native of Baltimore, will be the reci- pient of Israel's Maimonides Award "in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the cause of humanitarianism." "Dr. Brown has not only excelled professionally but has also taken an active interest in and a strong commitment to the state. of Israel. He represents the ideal professional indivi-. dual to be honored by Israel and his dedication more than qualifies him as the re- cipient of this tribute," said Dr. Hershel Sandberg, chief of the Department of Endocrinology at Sinai and chirman of the Israel Bonds Medical Physicians Di- vision. The honoree-elect is a graduate of the Univer- sity of Maryland and its School of Medicine. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Fraternity. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and fel- low of the American Col- lege of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Brown saw military service in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and from 1948-1951, attaining the rank of major. His professional ap- pointments include: president-elect, American Society of Anesthesiologists and that organization's Michigan delegate to the World Federation Society of Anesthesiologists; former chairman of the Board of Governors, American Col- lege of Anesthesiologists; and former president of both the Michigan and Wayne County Society of Anes- thesiologists. Dr. Brown has been the recipient of the "Out- standing Clinical Faculty Award" from the Wayne State Sch-ool of Medicine and a "Special Award" from the Michigan Hospi- tal Association. He has been associated with the Wayne State Uni- versity School of Medicine since 1957. In addition to his professorial and Sinai Hospital roles, he is a con- sultant for veterans, Hutzel and Harper hospitals. Dr. Brown is the author of more than 30 medical publica- tions.
