JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Attorney General Yitzhak
Zamir advised the Israel
government Tuesday that
there are no legal grounds
for prosecuting the two
Communist Party Knesset-
ers and their two aides who
met last week with Pales-
tine Liberation Organiza-
tion chief Yasir Arafat at a
peace convention in Sofia,
Bulgaria.
In a brief paper submitted
at the request of Justice
Minister Moshe Nissim,
Zamir held that the law for-
bidding contacts with the
enemy provides that such
contacts are legal if held
"for good reason" and that
in the case of the Com-
there
munist sa
could be id
said to have been
such good reason.
The two MKs, Charlie
Biton and Tewfiq, were
heartily booed by airport
workers when they re-
turned to Israel Tuesday af-
ternoon. "Have you
forogtten Maalot" one of the
demonstrators shouted.

that Knaffu was involved in
pre-election bribery in Lod
and also that he received
money by false pretenses.

Up, Up and Away

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Cabinet, as part of its
continuing effort to stem in-
flation, has announced that
anyone who earned more
than IL 700,000 (about
$12,730) last year will have
to pay an additional 5-10
percent on their income tax.
Government critics im-
mediately denounced the
decision as an indirect way
of raising the income tax.
The government said the
tax will be a one-time leVy.
