year nationwide," said
Holtzman. "This represents
a tremendous potential for
demonstrating our partner-
ship with the people of Is-
rael, if all holders of ma-
tured bonds 'reinvest at
once." The Israel Bond gen-
eral chairman asked that
bondholders contact the
Metro Detroit Israel Bond
office, 557-2900, for infor-
mation.
Holtzman explained that
communities which have
mounted full-scale rein-
vestment efforts had se-
cured excellent results and
that this has been an impor-
tant factor in sales of Israel
Bonds during the past two
years. He said that Detroit's
reinvestment committee is
mobilizing to ensure that all
holders of matured Bonds
are contacted and alerted to
the advantages of rein-
vestment.

"While an adult has an
`observing ego' — that is,
the cognitive capacity to
give meaning to even the
worst kind of torture and
terror, and thus to sum-
mon up the strength of
spiritual resistance —
young children seized by
terrorists or made to wit-
ness the murder of their
parents or teachers are
reduced to utter

helplessness
hopelessness.
The result is a stress so
overwhelming that treat-
ment of children victimized
by terrorists become an
all-but impossible task."

psychiatrist told the Ameri-

that the legacy of concen-

could now be seen among
the grandchildren of some
Holocaust survivors — and
that the psychological dam-
age inflicted on child vic-
tims of Palestine Liberation
Organization terror was
"even more damaging
psychologically."
Dr. Judith Issroff of Bar-

Studies spoke at an APA
panel on "Psychological
Treatment and Research on
Hostages, Torture Victims
and Refugees."
Issroff, who is also a child
psychiatrist at Hadassah
Hospital in Jerusalem, said
that child victims of PLO
terrorism in Israel suffered 0.
"perhaps greater psycholog-
ical damage than adult in-
mates of Nazi concentration
camps." She explained:

nomic and political stress
for Israel," he said.
"Through reinvestment,
we can help provide the
nation with that eco-
nomic support it so vit-
ally needs. Israel needs
bond dollars now to help
strengthen its economy
and meet the many chal-
lenges posed by the peace
treaty with Egypt."
According to the terms of
the Israel-Egypt peace
treaty, thousands of people
must be relocated from the
Sinai to the Negev within -a
short period of time and an
economic infrastructure
must be developed to absorb
them. This alone will cost
billions of dollars, in addi-
tion to the many other ongo-
ing projects which require
Israel Bond investment dol-
lars.
Taking leadership roles
in the local re-investment
campaign are Max Nosan-
chuk, Alice Ross and Betty
Rath.
