pleted for Jewish National
Fund's tribute dinner to be
held 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, where the
honoree will be Dr. Harold
-T. Shapiro, president of the
University of Michigan.
David B. Holtzman is
'inner chairman.
A forest of 25,000 trees
will be established in Israel
in honor of Dr. Shapiro and

Mercy College of Detroit
will be the scene of a series
on the Holocaust, "After
Auschwitz — Vision or
Void?" beginning Sept. 30.
At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30,
author Elie Wiesel will
speak in the college's
McAuley Auditorium on
"After Auschwitz: Vision or
Void?"
Shlomo Breznitz,, a psy-
chologist and scholar, who
holds the Lady David Chair
at Haifa University, will
speak 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in the
science center auditorium
at the college on "After Au-
schwitz: Dimensions of De-
nial." The responder will be
Dr. John L. Spain, professor
and chairman, department
of psychology at Mercy Col-
lege.
Historian Saul Fried-
lander will speak 7:30
p.m. Oct. 15 in the col-
lege's science center on
"After Auschwitz: Mem-
ory and Knowledge." The
responder will be Dr.
Werner Glas, professor of
education at Mercy.
An art exhibit on the
Holocaust, featuring the
works of artist Anna
Walinsky, will be on display
Oct. 20-Nov. 1 at the
Houghton Room of the
Mercy College Conferehce
Center.
The final program will be
held 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the
college's science center au-
ditorium, where Robert

McAfee Brown, a Protes-
tant Christian theologian,
will speak on "After Au-
schwitz: Dilemma of the
Churches."
The responder will be Dr.
Leonard Weber, associate
professor of religious
studies at Mercy.
The programs are free
and open to the public. The
project was made possible
by grants from Mercy Col-
lege of Detroit, Michigan
Council for the Humanities,
Jewish Community Council
and Friends of Mercy Col-
lege.

Dr. Shapiro is a native of
Montreal, Canada. He holds
degrees from McGill Uni-
versity, where he was
awarded the Lieutenant
Governor's medal in com-
merce in 1956; and from
Princeton, where he
earned MA and PhD de-
grees in economics. His
fields are econometrics,
mathematical economics,
money and banking.
His honors at Princeton
included the Harold Helm
Fellowship (1961-64); and
the Harold Dodd Senior Fel-
lowship (1963-64). In 1977,
he was named senior fellow
in the Michigan Society of
Fellows.
From 1965 to 1968, Dr.
Shapiro was consultant,
United States Treasury
(forecasting); and from 1968
to 1969, he served as re-
