Jewish Unit Scores Statement by Churches on Jerusalem Israel-Egypt Oil Agreement - Is Discussed TORONTO (JTA) — The International Jewish Committee for Interreli- gious Consultations (IJ- CIC), representing Jewish communities throughout the world, has expressed "shock and grave concern" over a statement on Jerusalem adopted by the World Council of Churches' Central Committee (WCC). The WCC, at its meeting here last month, adopted a statement opposing "the Is- raeli unilateral action of annexing East Jerusalem and uniting the city as its `eternal capital' under its exclusive sovereignty. This decision is contrary to all pertinent UN resolutions. It most dangerously under- mines all efforts towards TEL AVIV (JTA) — Shi- mon Gilboa, head of the Is- raeli fuel administration, is in Cairo to discuss the con- tinued supply of Egyptian oil from Sinai to Israel. The talks are intended to sum up the situation to date and to explore methods whereby Israel can obtain oil through direct agree- ment with the Egyptian authorities rather than purchase from oil com- panies as has been the case up to now. Israel receives 500,000 tons of crude oil every three months for which it pays be- tween $27-$34 per barrel. Kuwait Gives $1 Million to Georgetown Arab Center WASHINGTON (JTA) — Georgetown University has accepted an endowment of $1 million from the gov- ernment of Kuwait for its Georgetown Center for Con- temporary Arab Studies, which also is being financed this year by 24 American corporations. Wesley Christenson, Georgetown's director of public relations, said that the Kuwait endowment has raised the total contributed to the center by eight Arab governments to $3,305,000 since its founding in 1975. "More than half the money" for the center this year comes from American corporations while the Arab governments contribute "less than half," Chris- tenson s id. The center has a faculty of 22 members and its student body consists of only 38 undergraduate stu- dents. Kuwait's contribution is the largest yet given to the center. Libya and the United Arab Emirates each have given $750,000, the next highest gifts. Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman are the other Arab states that have contributed. Christenson said that a corporations that have contributed include Allis Chalmers, Texaco, Bechtel, Exxon, General Motors, Ford, Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank. A university statement said that the Kuwait gift was to establish an endowed professorship at the Center for Contemporary Arab Af- fairs and Public Policy. University officials said Kuwait attached no condi- tions to the gift and would not participate in selection of the professor under the endowment. Christenson said "some American Jews and some Israelis" are among the center's stu- dents. Besides the Arab center, the university • conducts a Middle East studies pro- gram in which, Christenson said, a visiting Israeli pro- fessorship ib a part. Regular conferences on Israeli eco- nomic and political affairs have been held since 1967 and more than 2,000 stu- dents have taken courses there, he said. It now has six undergraduate courses on Judaic studies, some of its students also go to Hebrew University in Jerusalem, he added. Cals revealed that he has fired the four of- ficials responsible for a secret report to that effect which became public. The report accused the CIA, THE KGB and the Jewish community of creat- ing obstacles to the im- plementation of the nuclear pact. In an interview on "A Voz Israelita" radio pro- gram, Cals said the gov- ernment totally rejected the report and that it is un- equivocally opposed to anti-Jewish manifestations in any form. The minister also con- demned the attack by un- identified vandals on a nur- sery sponsored by the Jewish philanthropic organization Ofidas in the Jewish quarter of Born Re- tiro in Sao Paulo recently. The premises were com- pletely destroyed. The nursery caters to about 130 children of poor families, almost all of them non-Jewish.
