The more than 250 in attendance provided a fund, supplementing the gener- ous gift of the Steinhardts, toward the establishment of the Steinhardt Adolescent Psychiatric Care Annex at the Geha Psychiatric Hospi- tal in Petah Tikva, Israel. Appreciation for Dr. Steinhardt's services to the community was ex- pressed in the keynote address by Dr. Peter Martin, who emphasized the value of giving as a continuing blessing in Jewish tradition. Similar sentiments were expressed in scientific pap- ers read to the gathering by Dr. Joseph Fischoff and Dr. Emanuel Tanay. The three major ad- dresses were notable con- tributions to the psychiatric science. In his response to the tributes, Dr. Steinhardt traced his personal interest in the advance of psychiat- ric medicine and his com- munal labors with em- phasis on Zionism. The introductory greet- ing was by Dr. _Harry August. Irwin Shaw was the toastmaster. An official plaque honor- ing Dr. and Mrs. Steinhardt was presented by Morris Lieberman, chairman of the local Israel Histadrut Cam- paign, the sponsor of the Steinhardt testimonial. Frederick Steinhardt Senators Protest Emigration Cut WASHINGTON — Sen. Donald Riegle (D-Mich.) has joined with 25 other Senators to ask President Carter to publicly condemn the Soviet Union for drasti- cally reducing the emigra- tion of Soviet Jews. Emigration averaged 4,000 per month last year, but is expected to be less than 700 this month. President Carter said the U.S. would raise the issue at an international meeting in Madrid in November where compliance with the Hel- sinki accords will be re- viewed. In New York, the Greater New York Con- ference on Soviet Jewry reported that Alexander Landsman, a 16-year-old Jewish boy, is suffering in a Moscow hospital bed with acute leukemia. Physicians throughout the United States and the world have appealed to Soviet authorities on humanitarian grounds ask- ing that Alexander be allowed to be treated for this deadly disease in the West. The requests have been re- peatedly denied, the confer- ence said. Weep for the man who knows not his good fortune, and laugh for him who knows not his destiny. — Talmud spoke for the family in greeting his parents. The invocation and bene- diction were given by Rabbi Efry Spectre and Rabbi Max Weine. If the memory is more flexible in childhood, it is more tenacious in mature age; if childhood has some- times the memory of words, old age has that of things, which impress themselves according to the clearness of the conception of the thought which we wish to retain. —Bonstetten Gloria's FABULOUS FASHIONS FOR THE FULLER FIGURE A Happy and Healthy New Year From All Of Us at Gloria's Featuring The Latest In Fall Fashions Crtoria's FABULOUS FASHIONS FOR THE FULLER FIGURE Orchard Mall, Maple at Orchard Lake Road West Bloomfield 851-2353 Mon. thru Sat. 10-6, Thurs. & Fri. 10-9 Gift Baskets... say i t better!
