TEL AVIV (JTA) — Re-
ports of atrocities against
Jewish women in Syria
have again reached the
Public Committee for Jews
in Arab Lands.
Jews have become — ac-
cording to the reports — vic-
toms in the struggle be-
tween the Syrian Army and
the Moslem Brotherhood.
The reports said that young
Jewish women were sepa-
rated forcibly by Syrian
soldiers from their hus-

The Public Committee for
Jews in Arab Countries
plans to start a worldwide
campaign, immediately
after the High Holidays, on
behalf of the Jews in Arab
countries, especially on be-
half of the 4,500 Jews still in
Syria. The campaign would
reach its climax on Interna-
tional Day for Human
Rights declared by the UN
at the beginning of De-
cember.

This was the message sent
to President Carter last
week by the four leading
officers of November's
Jerusalem Pilgrimage in a
letter emphasizing the spe-
cial meaning which
Jerusalem holds for Jews
everywhere, and underscor-
ing that they. would "never
agree to the liquidation of
Jerusalem re-united under
Jewish sovereignty."
The four leaders signing
the letter were Rabbi
Seymour J. Cohen of
Chicago, president of the
Rabbinical Assembly of
America; Rabbi Arthur J.
Lelyveld of Cleveland,
president of the Synagogue
Council of America; Rabbi
Haskel Lookstein of New
York; and Rabbi Joseph P.
Sternstein of Long Island,
president of the American
Zionist Federation which is
