when the Sabbath bread
was being made. Originally,
it was given to the priests.
In our day it is burned.
By calling the Sabbath
bread "halla" we remind
whoever prepares the bread
of the religious req'iirement
to take off sorr e of the dough
in order to fulfill the re - .
quirement of sharing one's
bread with the priests.
