Dzienciarski managed to survive the Holocaust by escaping to the east and the Russian frontier be- fore Lodz's Jewish ghetto was leveled. Dzienciarski considers his paintings his major achievement, and an histor- ical record which exists for future generations. NEW YORK — "In My Mind's Eye: Jewish Life in Lodz, 1920-1939," 35 paint- ings by Polish born artist, David Dzienciarski, depict- ing the life and culture of his native town prior to its Holocaust destruction will be the featured exhibit at the Yeshiva University Museum starting Sept. 7 and running through mid- December. The paintings, all oil on canvas, were done over the past 20 years in Israel, to which Dzienciarski emi- grated in 1948, and which he left recently to work and exhibit in the United States. The son of a lumber and furniture merchant, Dzien- ciarski, who was born in 1912, spent much of his youth traveling by motorcy- cle to various towns and vil- lages throughout Poland. Eatz.
