More than 2,000 persons attended the conference, a three-day event in June which combined live per- formances, workshops, panels, playreading and films. Abraham Atik, executive director of the National Foundation for Jewish Cul- ture, said the conference at- tracted participants from all over North America, and from Israel, France and Belgium. Siegel said plans were under way for a second festival next year to further develop the goals of the the- ater association and provide additional exposure to the creative work being done in the field of Jewish theater. Siegel said the festival was "highly successful" in achieving its major go- als: to provide an oppor- tunity for individuals and groups involved in Jewish theater to see one another's work arid dis- cuss common concerns; to provide a showcase for producers and pro- grammers to see a variety of productions during one concentrated period, and to expose broader audiences to the contem- porary revival of Jewish theater in America. The foundation an- nounced establishment of an Ida Kaminska award, to be given annually for con- tributions to the Jewish theater. The award was es- tablished in memory of the late Yiddish actress. The association's "Plays of Jewish Interest: A Pre- liminary Catalogue," was edited by Edward Cohen. The catalogue lists and de- scribes more than 200 plays relating to aspects of Jewish experience, life and culture. Among those who stand, do not sit; among those who sit, do not stand.
