The second course offering
is College Preparatory
English, designed for per-
sons interested in pursuing
studies beyond the high
school level.
Both courses incorpo-
rate components on
Americanization and
U.S. citizenship.

The program will feature
monthly guest speakers
who will provide insight
into the nature and organ-
ization of American busi-
ness and industry.
Classes will meet every
Tuesday and Thursday,
7:30-10:30 p.m., at United
Hebrew Schools, starting
Sept. 30.

The program, which fea-
tures two different kinds of
English instruction, is in-
tended to be a continuation
of prior work in basic
English.. Students enrolled
in this program must have
had some background in
ESL (English as a Second
Language) instruction.
Utilizing ESL methods this
program will provide
further development and re-
finement of English lan-
guage skills.
Students will choose the
type of English instruction
most suited to their needs.
The two courses offered are
Technical English and Col-
lege Preparatory English.

course is designed for adults

The CJF is the umbrella
organization of local federa-
tions and welfare funds in
the United States and
Canada. Detroit's Jewish
Welfare Federation, headed
by President George M.
Zeltzer, will host more than
2,000 delegates at this
policy-setting Jewish com-
munal gathering.
Slated for 10 p.m. Nov. 13,
the reception will pay trib-
ute to Detroit's automotive
industry. Co-chairmen of
the event are Vivian and
Bernice Deutsch.
The entertainment
commiltee, headed by
Lillian Perlman, who is
being assisted by Sally
Levy and Beverly Laker,
is now completing plans
for the occasion, which is
just one of the many
locally-sponsored high-
lights of the gathering.
The decorations commit-
tee for the reception jointly
chaired by Ruth Frank and
Charlotte Zack; working
along with them are Harriet
Prentis and Marjorie Al-
pern.
Co-chairmen of the recep-
tion's food committee are
Sue Orley and Nola
Goldman; serving with
them are Melba Winer,
Esther Jones, Virginia
Hoffman and Sally Sober-
man.
