Jewish Units to Utilize TV Series
NEW YORK — Seven
major Jewish organizations
in the U.S. have pledged to
promote and utilize the pub-
lic television series "Civili-
zation and the Jews" prior
to the filming of the project
by WNET/13, New York.
for their own educational
and cultural programs are
being formulated by the fol-
lowing organizations: the
American Jewish Commit-
tee, the American Jewish
Congress, the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
The 11-part series, to be
hosted by Abba Eban, who
also serves as its chief con-
sultant, is scheduled to air
nationally over the Public
Broadcasting Services
(PBS) in 1983.

tion and the Jews" was an-
nounced by WNET/13 in
1979, following receipt of a
$1 million grant over three
years from the Charles H.
Revson Foundation. The
project will be filmed on lo-
cation in 18 countries on
four continents.
Subject to availability,
the following actors and ac-
tresses have agreed to play
voice-over, cameo roles or
narrative roles in the series:
Edward Asner, Herschel
Bernardi, Mel Brooks, Mel-
vyn Douglas, Tovah
Feldshuh, Jack Gilford, Joel
Grey, Sam Jaffe, James Ma-
son, Walter Matthau, Nor-
man Rose, Marian Seldes,
Gene Wilder, Joseph Wise-
man and Joanne Wood-
ward.
During the past year, five
of the 11 scripts have been
completed, and it is antici-
pated that full-scale produc-
tion will commence early in
1981.

rity Council resolution cen-
suring Israel two weeks ago
for its Jerusalem law, 30
Congressmen have asked
Secretary of State Edmund
Muskie to meet with them
and discuss U.S. policy
toward Israel.
Rep. Sidney Yates (D.-
Ill.), dean of the Jewish
members of the House, has
asked for the meeting on
behalf of his colleagues to
include Rep. Dante Pascell
(D-Fla.), Jonathan Bin-
gham (D-NY) and James
Blanchard (D-Mich.).

cent workers strike in Po-
land forced a Time-Life
television crew to accelerate
the filming of John Hersey's
"The Wall," the story of the
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in
World War II.
The cast and crew, ap-
prehensive following the
disappearance of a casting
liaison and the withdrawal
of a Polish militia unit on
loan as extras, finished
filming over the Labor Day
weekend and promptly left
the country.
The cast, which includes
Lisa Eichhorn, Eli Wallack,
Tom Conti and Gerald Hi-
ken, left the country shortly
before the strike was set-
tled, Aug. 31.
