in Las Vegas, will be carried
throughout the U.S. and
carried via satellite in
Alaska,. Hawaii and Puerto
Rico.
News anchorman, Joe
Glover, who is honorary
chairman of the Southeast-
ern Michigan. Chapter of
MDA, will host the 22-hour
non-stop telethon in De-
troit. Appearing with
Glover and assisting with
the telethon will be numer-
ous local personalities and
well-known people from the
fields of radio, TV, news-
papers and sports, as well as
many community represen-
tatives of cultural, educa-
tion religious and civic
groups.
The telethon will fea-
ture dozens of top-
ranking stars, including
many TV and Hollywood
headliners and major

The money raised by the
telethon helps MDA wage
an all-out war against 40

through a worldwide re-
search effort, a nationwide
program of free medical
services and professional
and public education. Loc-
ally, research projects are
now under way at Wayne

medical services to children
and adults with neuromus-
cular diseases; free diag-
nosis and follow-up care are
offered at more than 220
MDA clinics across the
country. In the Greater De-
troit area, a MDA clinic is

NEW ORLEANS — Ul-
traconservative evangelical
groups, not the Ku Klux
Klan or neo-Nazis, pose the
gravest threat to the
American Jewish commu-
nity, warned Jerome L.
Levinrad, national execu-
tive director of the Jewish
War Veterans of the U.S.A.
in a recent address to the
JWV's 85th annual na-
tional convention.
Levinrad called for the
American Jewish commu-
nity to be on the alert to the
ultra-conservative trend of
some of these evangelical
groups.
"Using the pulpit as a
platform, they are imple-
menting a multi-million
dollar media campaign to
shape America into a single
political mold, namely,
their own brand of ultra-
conservatism," he said.
He noted that such ac-
tions violate both the spirit
and tradition of the Ameri-
can way of life and are a
threat to all individuals and
minority groups with be-
liefs different from those of
ultra-conservative evangel-
ical groups.
