UAW Leader Douglas Fraser
to Get BB Annual Award
The Bnai Brith Founda-
tion announces that the
1980 recipient of the Bnai
Brith International
Humanitarian Award will
be Douglas A. Fraser,
president of the UAW.
Fraser will be honored "for
his distinguished contribu-
tions of a humanitarian na-
ture to the city, the state
and the nation." Fraser will
receive the honor at a Bnai
Brith dinner Nov. 19 at the
Detroit Plaza Hotel.
In 1943, Fraser became
president of Local 227 after
having been elected to var-
ious offices. He served three
terms in that position. His
activities with the union
were - many and in 1951
Walter P. Reuther selected
him as an administrative
assistant, a position he held
for eight years.
Fraser is an officer or
member of numerous civic
and governmental bodies.
He is a member of the board
of directors of various
organizations, including
the Full Employment Ac-
tion Council, the NAACP,
the National Housing Con-
ference, the National Urban
Coalition, New Detroit and
the Economic Club of De-
troit.
In addition, he is affil-
iated with: the board of
trustees of the Aspen In-
stitute for Humanistic
Studies, the Leadership
Conference on Civil
Rights, the World Au-
tomotive Council of the
International Metalwor-
