COCKTAILS • BEER • WINE SPINACH PIE 1.95 JUST A SIMPLE menu in silver and blue . . . with a rendering of Judy Garland on the cover .. . But the difference is like night and day from any previous eating experience at Holiday Inn of Southfield . . . Telegraph Rd., between 10 and 11 Mile. The top floor Ronde-View has been closed . . . and opened to the wide-eyed and palate-delight of so many is Sassy's on the first floor. Seating 250 in a large, airy and ultra- modernistic setting, Sas- sy's immediately gives one the ultimate feeling of quiet, comfortable ele- gance. It is spanking new from the floor up . . . with gleam- ing aluminum and copper shining throughout . . . plus recessed lighting in the high white ceilings . . . Ta- bles and booths are done in excellent taste . . . with brown and beige tones re- flecting the wood, velvet and wicker . . . All tabletops are of marble. Sassy's has its own bake shop . . . making those luscious-looking pastries . . . and all breads, including halla. First chance we've had to see Sassy's was last week at lunchtime . . . Couldn't be- lieve the transformation from where the banquet rooms once stood. My waitress, Sandra Sabo, was certainly no stranger to the dining wiles of a , very gopd server . . . smiling, effi- cient and courteous as she brought a Tugboat Annie's Favorite sand- wich ... white Albacore tuna, tomatoes, natural Swiss cheese and sesame seed broiled on an English muffin . . . It was delicious ... Yogurt is served on the side for those who desire it on their sandwich. Others around me had Hello Dali omelette (with guacamole, cheddar cheese and covered with sour cream) . . . The Supreme omelette (with shrimp, crab, cheeses, fresh mush- rooms, scallions and alfalfa sprouts) . . . The Old English (chopped sirloin, cheddar cheese sauce, sauteed onions and bacon on an English muffin or bread) . . . and a number of very good looking salads. Haven't been to the Sun- day brunch as yet, but word is that it is among the best anywhere .. . $5.95 . . ,.1.1 to 3 p.m. . . . Almost 50 items, many not found on brunch tables (cracked crab legs, shrimp, smoked white fish, wined herring, chicken salad with almonds, etc.) .. . plus the regulars like lox, chubs, sable, creamed her- ring, bagels, rolls, liver pate, etc. . . . Also eight special entrees a dollar extra . . . two spe- cial entrees $2 extra . . . and large open-face prime rib sandwich $3 extra . . . The additional entrees are only if desired . . . Children 10 and under are $3.95 for the brunch. And where have you ever had brunch while a classical harpist weaves melodious music? Also at the new Sassy's are its much-talked-about Sunset Dinners . . . $7.95 . . . Thursday through Mon- day (including Sunday), 5 to 7:30 p.m. . . . 36 items on the salad bar . . . soup . . . choice of Chicken Kiev topped with wine sauce, Salmon En Croute topped with Hollan- daise, Brochettes of Beef (medallions of filet mignon) or Monk Fish topped with lobster sauce . . . The all- you-want salad bar by itself; is $4.95. Here, too, is music, with piano stylings. Speaking of piano rhythms, Tuesday through Saturday evenings it's Tom Altenburg at Sassy's. The new ownership at Holiday Inn of Southfield has transforthed a mediocre operation into one of class elegance . . . without the unnecessary increase in prices . . . If anything, they're lower than before . . . and the food is so very much better. Sherwin Friedman is the innkeeper at Holiday Inn of Southfield . . . as- sisted by people like Sha- ron "Ms. Everything" Satterfield (promotion, outside sales, etc., plus help _ ing map out where air conditioning units went). The catering halls are also new . . . and now ac- commodate up to about 350 people . . . Complaints of be- fore on the food at catered affairs have undoubtedly gone by the wayside . . ..and the-prices are within organ- izational reach. (Continued on Page 36) 27822 ORCHARD LAKE RD.
