The dream of Boris Schatz, a sculptor, the Jewish Arts and Crafts Col- lege was opened in an old house on the outskirts of Jerusalem in 1906. Lack of funds forced the school to * * close and it was re-opened in 1936 as the New Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts. In 1970, the Ministry of Education formally recog- nized it as an academy of arts and design.
