Danny Raskin's
SINCE HUNGARIAN
VILLAGE on Springwells
and 1-75 has changed into
the hands of Harvey Ur-
novitz, things have been
perking along at an upris-
ing clip.
Each month, he has some-
thing different in the way of
entertaining promotions .. .
The evening I was there re-
cently, "Yiddish Gypsy
Night" held the theme.
There was Freddy Sheyer
on guitar and singing .. .
(with trio and songstress)
. . . playing Yiddish tunes
plus "Fiddler On The Roof"
selections and standards .. .
The gypsy orchestra of Jay
Kalleo, violin; Norman
Garber, bass; Tommy Hor-
vath, guitar, and Boldie
"Pops" Garber on the cym-
bolum, is the regular Fri-
day, Sattirday and Sunday
house orchestra . . . Nor-
man's vocalizing is as good
as ever.
The little man with the
big voice enchanted people
with, "I'll Never Pass This
Way Again," "Be My Love,"
"All Of Me," "Feelings,"
"Besame Mucho" and other
applause gatherers.
Hungarian Village and
its 120-seating plus a
cocktail lounge is intimate
with candles on tables and
beamed ceiling . . . Harvey
did the outside painting
himself.
The waitresses on our
side of the room were a
mother-and-daughter team
. . . Fran Damman and Geri
Hollowell . . . Fran brought
us a very fine Hungarian
dinner . . . cup of chicken
soup with tiny liver-filled
dumplings, a super Hunga-
rian salad made with Gor-
ganzola cheese and dressing
of fresh squeezed lemon, oil
and vinegar . . . Our Wiener
Schnitzel (veal cutlet) was
excellent . . . served with an
excellent crispy potato pan-
