Story of 'Other Holocaust'
Revealed in New Volume

Czech's Holocaust Memories
Detailed in 'Prague Street'

The Novak Report on the
New Ethnicity, a newsletter
geared toward the 30 mil-
lion European immigrants
and descendants of Euro-
pean immigrants currently
living in America, has pub-
lished "The Other
Holocaust: Many Circles of
Hell," by Bohdan Wyt-
wycky.
The 95-page soft-cover
volume deals with the 10
million (as claimed by
Wytwycky) non-Jews who
perished in the Holocaust.
Although the author admits
that "those who were con-
demned to the most des-per-

The memories of a young,
half-Jewish, Czechoslova-
kian girl during the sum-
mer before the outbreak of
World War II serve as the
subject for "The House on
Prague Street" by Hana
Demetz (St. Martin's Press).
Helenka Richter, born to
a German father and a
Jewish Czech mother, re-
members her grandparents'
house on Prague Street.
The house, where her
mother grew up and where
Helenka herself spent
childhood days of talk and
play, came to represent
happiness, safety and fam-
ily.
As war and bigotry enter
the picture, Helenka's inno-
cent world evaporates and
the author, who claims the
book is somewhat autobiog-
raphical, recalls the dark
days of the Holocaust.
Hana Demetz was born in
Czechoslovakia and edu-
cated in Prague. In 1949,
she became an editor for
Radio Free Europe in Ger-
many. She is the author of

Wytwycky tells the story
of the Gypsies, Slays, Poles,
Ukrainians, Byelorussians
and Russians who were also
designated for extinction. A
foreword by Rabbi Seymour
Siegel, of the Jewish
Theological Seminary of
America, explains the rea-
son for publishing the
author's seldom told story:
"Now, some 35 years'
after (the Holocaust), we
have still not managed to
fully understand how
human beings deliber-
ately and coolly planned

ings and the gassings re-

(JTA) -- Israel has circu-

original Arabic text of El

Noting that Yasir Arafat,

has denied that El Fatah
resolutions call for Israel's

ZOA ACTION GUIDELINES

Stealing Jetusalem from the Jewish People

,

. . . an open letter to the Detroit News

Mr. William E. Giles, Editor and Vice-President
The Detroit News
615 Lafayette Blvd.
Detroit, Michigan 48231

Dr. Mr. Giles:
The Detroit News tells its readers (Aug. 4, 1980) that the American Jewish Community -is
"embarrassed" by Israel's "occupation of Arab land, its declaration of divided Jerusalem as the_
national capital and its immediate rejection of the United Nations Assembly vote."
That is vicious nonsense — totally misleading.
The Jewish people would have to abandon being Jews to accept the United Nations resolution
on Jerusalem which calls for Israel's withdrawal and in the vote in March of the Security Council
called for the dismantlement of Jewish housing in Jerusalem — a demand which America's UN
Ambassador McHenry, even though he voted for it, said was a mistake — "after all homes will be
needed by the future occupants of the area," he explained in a prepared statement.
Jerusalem is part of the Jewish faith. The Hebrew Bible mentions Jerusalem no less than 656
times while the Moslem Koran not even once. Over the centuries, after every meal a Jew eats, he
cannot say Grace After Meals without referring to Jerusalem:
"Please, 0 Lord, have mercy upon us, upon Israel thy people and upon Jerusalem
thy City. Build Jerusalem the Holy City speedily in our days."
To deny Jerusalem to Israel, is to deny the legitimacy of Israel as a Jewish state.
Last April the Egyptian parliament adopted a resolution proposed by President Sadat declaring
Jerusalem ". . the eternal capital of the Palestinian State." Egypt, which has no claim to
Jerusalem, can pass such a resolution, but it is improper for the parliament of the state of the Jews
— the people whose eyes had been lifted towards Jerusalem for thousands of years — to do so!
Why is that?
The Detroit News reports tell how "Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 war"
letting the readers believe that East Jerusalem really belongs to Jordan. In the resolutions passed
by the United Nations, Jerusalem is called "occupied Arab territory."
The public is not being told the whole story. Yes, Israel did take East Jerusalem from Jordan
following Jordan's attack on Israel in the 1967 war. But the public is not being told that Jordan had
bloodily seized the city 19 years before, in 1948, when Jerusalem had a 100,000 Jews out of a
population of 165,000. The public is also not being told how Jordan made the Holy City into an Arab
city by forcing out all the Jewish survivors and forbidding any Jews, even as tourists. Systemati-
cally during their 19 years of occupation, which was never recognized by America, Jordan tried to
destroy every trace of Jerusalem's ancient Jewish history. As the foul acts of desecration were
perpetrated against places holy to the Jewish people, there was no United Nations 'condemnation
of Jordan. The world remained silent.

That was an attempt to steal JerusaleM from the Jewish people. Now it is being tried
again.

The public should not be misled. Jerusalem belongs to Israel.
The United Nations, instead of being as originally intended ameans of solving world
problems of war and hunger, has become a tool for communists and Arab oil imperialists to
waste its time promoting the aims of the terrorists PLO to legitimize the destruction of Israel
and the murder of Jews and Arabs friendly to Israel.
