In cooperation with over
100 Jewish communities
throughout the United
States, the Jewish Commu-
nity Council of Metropoli-
tan Detroit is participating
in a, campaign to send one
million Rosh Hashana
greeting cards to long-term
"refusniks," Soviet Jews
who have been Waiting over
six years for permission to
leave the USSR.
The Council has prepared
a New Year's card which of-
fers a greeting in Russian,
and a calendar of Jewish
holidays.
Each Jewish community
has "adopted" one refusnik
to whom cards will be sent.
The Detroit adoptee is:
Eugenia Kerzhner,
Saramyshevskaia 54, Apt.
9, Moscow, RSFSR, USSR.
Mrs. Kerzhner is 29
years old, has one child
and has been waiting
eight years to emigrate to
Israel.
The greeting card will fit
a 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" envelope. First
class air mail postage to the
USSR is 31 cents per half
ounce. To insure delivery by
Rosh Hashana. cards should
be mailed by Aug. 15.

Delta Cites
1980 Earnings

Delta Air Lines' Senior.
Vice President for Finance
Robert Oppenlander has
announced unaudited 1980
fiscal year earnings of
$93,158,000, or $4.69 per,
share, the third highest
level of earnings in Delta's
history,.
Oppenlander stated;
"While the 1980 results
were down 32 percent form
the record earnings of
$136,744,000, $6.88 per
share, in fiscal 1979, we
consider the 1980 results to
be an outstanding accom-
plishment, especially in
view of the fact that many of
the nation's other trunk air-
lines are currently report-
ing significant losses for the
same 12-month period.
"Throughout much of the
year, airline industry earn-
ings suffered from softening
traffic growth, a high level
of inflation including huge
increases in fuel costs, and
the failure of passenger
mile yield increases to keep
pace with the increases in
operating expenses::
