Dr. Gene Weltfish, Anthropologist

Betty Bloom, 65, Followed Family's Zionist Tradition

NEW YORK — An-
thropologist and feminist
Dr. Gene Weltfish, a target
of anti-Communist move-
ments in the U.S., died Aug.
2 at age 78.
According to the New
York Times, Dr. Weltfish
became prominent during
the 1940s as the co-author of
The Races of Mankind," a
pamphlet that the War De-
partment purchased in bulk
to distribute to officers and
instructors to counter the
Nazi theories of racial
superiority.

Betty Bloom, whose many
communal affiliations
marked continuity in fam-
ily traditions, died July 30
at age 65.
Like her father, the late
Israel Davidson, who was
the founder of the Federal

sor emeritus at Fairleigh
Dickinson University in
New Jersey. She lectured
across the country on an-
thropology, racial equality
and women's rights.

William Folbe

Happy is the man with
a beautiful wife; the
number of his days are dou-
bled.

William Folbe, a retired
mattress maker, died July
30 at age 86.
Born in Russia, Mr. Folbe
retired in 1960. He was a
charter member of Temple
Israel, member of the
Oddfellows and was
awarded the Purple Heart
in World War I.
He leaves his wife,
Sophie; a son, Norman; a
daughter, Mrs. Fred (An-
nette) Schriber; and nine
grandchildren.

Ken Zimmerman

Ken Zimmerman, retired
owner of Ken's Tire and
Service Center in Mt. Cle-
mens, died July 9 in New
Port Richey, Fla. He was 72.
In Florida, he was one of
the founders and a member
of a religious affairs com-
mittee as well as financial
secretary of the Jewish
Community Center of West
Pasco. Mr. Zimmerman was
a member of Cong. Beth
Tephilath Moses in Mt.
Clemens.
He is survived by'his wife,
Betty; a son, Donald of Mt.
Clemens; a daughter, Mrs.
Nathan (Irene) Rosen of
Southfield; his mother, Mrs.
Sofia Zimmerman of Long
Island, N.Y.; two brothers,
four sisters and five
grandchildren. Interment
Florida.

She was a past vice
president of Women's
American ORT, a member
of the board of directors of

Gerald Meyerson, co-
founder and co-owner of the
Scotch 'n Sirloin, Trio and
Aged 'n Rare restaurants,
died July 31 at age 53.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Meyerson co-founded and
co-owned his restaurants
with his brothers, Aubrey
and Arlyn.
He was a member of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Michigan Restaurant Asso-
ciation and the Great Lakes
Yacht Club. He resided at
32804 White Oaks Tr., Bir-
mingham.
He leaves his wife, Berta;
two sons, Benjamin and
Joshua; two daughters,
Valerie and Emily; his
mother, Mrs. Meyer (Mary)
Meyerson of Phoenix, Ariz.;
and ,his brothers, Aubrey of
Pacific Palisades, Calif.,
and Arlyn.
