Leonid
President
Brezhnev on behalf of
Soviet refusnik Vladimir
Kislik.)
"We are writing to ex-
press our deep concern for
the welfare of Vladimir Kis-
lik, who is presently being
held without cause in a
psychiatric hospital.
"Vladimir Kislik has
been unfairly denied per-
mission to emigrate to Is-
rael since, December 1973.
His wife and
a son were per-
mitted to leave and have
settled in Israel. Since his
application for a visa, Vla-
dimir has been unable to
work or study in his field —
as a metallurgical engineer.
"More recently, on July
4 —just two weeks before
the opening of the Olym-
pic Games — Vladimir

Kislik was arrested on
unfounded charges of
malicious hooliganism
and sentenced to two
weeks in prison. While
serving that term, his
sentence was extended
for an additional two
weeks, again without ex-
planation. In an effort to
protest this unjust treat-
ment Kislik went on a
hunger strike, and as a
result, he has been placed
in the Republican
Psychiatric Hospital.

"We strongly protest this
treatment of a distin-
guished member of the sci-
entific community. We urge
that Vladimir Kislik be re-
leased from psychiatric con-
finement and allowed to
emigrate to Israel."
